My Backyard Garden, A Memoir - 2020 Book of the Year Award

By Debra Hester

My Backyard Garden

A confirmation that “love” with time, reflection, and prayer can conquer grief and loss.

“I was standing at the base of a huge mountain that seemed to emerge out of nowhere.”

If you’ve lost a loved one to death and you’re at this place, or know of someone who is, I’m hoping that My Backyard Garden can give you and them hope and insights into the journey ahead. #empathyforgrief and loss.

My Inspiration

Meet Mother

My mother, Mrs. Alice Y. Hester, taught high school for 42 years, mostly in small rural communities in eastern and western Arkansas.

Pictured here teaching, she loved her students and loved teaching. She was pregnant with me in this old black and white photo. She worked up to the day before I was born.
